Your own chat for your club or team
A chat that belongs to your organisation, not to Meta. On your own domain, encrypted and stored in Europe.
Does this sound familiar?
The club runs on WhatsApp groups. Everyone can see everyone else’s phone number. People who leave stay in the group for months, because nobody knows who the admin is. And all messages are with Meta, the American company behind WhatsApp and Facebook.
What I arrange for you
- Your own chat on your own domain, for example
chat.yourclub.nl. The chat belongs to the organisation, not to Meta. - Groups per topic, such as the committee, volunteers or the whole team.
- No sharing of phone numbers. Members see each other’s names, not their numbers.
- Adding and removing members. When someone joins, I send an invitation link. When someone leaves, I remove them.
- Help with installing. If you like, I visit your committee or team and set up the app on the phones together with you.
Why European?
The chat runs on a server in Germany, with a European hosting company. I manage that server myself. Messages are encrypted. The chat uses an open standard, so you are not tied to one company. If you want to leave later, you take your data with you.
When the admin changes, the organisation loses nothing. The domain is in the organisation’s name. I am the administrator, so you don’t have to worry about it. If I stop or you want to switch, you get a copy of all data and take it with you.
Please note: this chat is not suitable for medical data or other special categories of personal data. It is meant for the everyday communication of a club or team.
Fixed price, no surprises
You pay once for the setup and then a fixed amount each month. That includes the chat server, adding or removing members, resetting passwords and help by email, or simply through the chat itself. The fixed amount applies up to 10 people. For a larger group I make a price to measure.
I am happy to visit your committee or team anywhere in the province of Utrecht, with no call-out charge. Usually that is on a Saturday.

Frequently asked questions
Do all members need to install an app?
Yes. Everyone installs the free Snikket app and gets a personal invitation link from me. With that, the account is ready in a few minutes. If you like, I visit and we set up the app on the phones together.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, the Snikket app is available for iPhone and Android. The iPhone app is currently in English only.
Can I use it on a computer too?
Yes, but it is less simple than on a phone. There is no Snikket program for the computer yet. On Windows and Linux the program Gajim works, on Linux also Dino. For most groups the phone is enough.
What if someone leaves?
Then I remove that person. After that they can no longer read along. So you don't have to find out who the admin of which group is.
Can the organisation leave later?
Yes. The chat uses an open standard and the domain is in the organisation's name. When you cancel, you get a copy of your data, so you can move to another provider or your own server.
Is the chat suitable for medical data?
No. The chat is not suitable for medical data or other special categories of personal data, such as data about members' health, religion or origin. It is meant for the everyday communication of a club or team. That is also why I do not set up this service for healthcare practices.
